Cricket in Pakistan

Cricket has been played in Pakistan since before the birth of the nation in 1947. It was introduced by the British during their colonial rule of British India, which covered the area now known as Pakistan. Despite Field Hockey being the National Game of Pakistan cricket is the most popular sport in the country. Pakistan has produced many talented cricketers who have been among the best batsmen and bowlers in international cricket.

The Pakistan Cricket Board controls both all domestic cricket tournaments. Pakistan is an official member of the International Cricket Council and the Asian Cricket Council.

Cricket world cup winner 

 

 March 25, 1992 will always be remembered as one of the most glorious days in the history of Pakistan cricket. It was on this day, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, that Imran Khan’s ‘cornered tigers’ completed their fairytale journey at the cricket world cup. Pakistan claimed the Asia Cup with a thrilling two-run victory over a dogged Bangladesh on March 22, 2012, breaking the hearts of home supporters who saw their unfancied side take the game to the wire.
The visitors — tournament winners in 2000 — held Bangladesh to 234-8, agonisingly short of Pakistan’s 236-9 despite impressive half-centuries from Shakib Al Hasan (68) and opener Tamim Iqbal (60).
